Clear Braces

It is becoming more popular for people who are evaluating options for straightening their teeth to consider clear braces because of the esthetic benefit when compared to metal braces in chapel hill nc.

Clear Braces and Invisalign

It is helpful to first clarify what clear braces are. Clear braces are similar to conventional metal braces, but use clear brackets instead of silver brackets and wires. In addition, they can include the use of clear wires as well. People often include clear aligner braces or trays in this category as they are made from a clear material.

Both types of braces are an effective method used to straighten misaligned teeth in a way that is less obvious. The main differences is how the braces work, how they appear, how to properly wear them, and the overall cost.

Some of the most popular brands of clear brace include Damon Clear and Clearsmile. It is also helpful to compare clear invisible braces such as Invisalign in order to compare the two solutions.

Many adults feel self-conscious or embarrassed about wearing braces. However, many adults get braces according to the American Association of Orthodontics (AAO). In 2016, more than 1.5 million adults received an orthodontic treatment.

Using braces for teeth straightening is typically most effective during the teenage years as the teeth and jaws are still developing. However, this does not suggest adult patients can't wear braces. In fact, many adults achieve excellent results with orthodontic treatment.

Modern developments of dental technology has allowed patients to start using invisible aligners. This method can make the braces nearly undetectable.

One component which can limit your choices for braces is how severe your case is. As an example, Invisalign braces are able to treat about 90% of orthodontic cases. In the remaining 10% of cases where the teeth are dramatically misaligned, metal braces may be the only suitable option.

In addition, clear aligners used at-home, such as Candid, are only adequate for treating mild to moderate cases. They are becoming a solid option due to their convenience and reduced cost. Candid costs about 45–75% less than Invisalign.

Candid offers a tool which can help patients to determine if they are a candidate for this treatment option.

Tooth-colored ceramic braces are an excellent option for people who want to use a less obvious method for straightening their teeth. When choosing between clear and tooth-colored braces, it may be determined by the natural color of your teeth.

People who have teeth which are naturally bright and light usually find that transparent braces are the less noticeable solution. Patients who have darker colored teeth often find that the tooth-colored ceramic material is a better match. Aside from the color, these two types of braces work in the same way.

Clear Aligners

Transparent aligner systems are an entirely different straining solution compared to braces. The aligners consist of a series of clear plastic braces or aligner trays which securely fit over the teeth. The trays are customized for each patient and created from dental scans or impressions taken by the dentist. About every two weeks, the patient is required to switch to a new aligner tray. Gradually over time, they shift the teeth and jaws into their desired position.

Treatment using invisible braces usually takes about 9 to 18 months. In some cases, it can be completed in as little as 3 to 6 months for minor corrections.

One major benefit of this type of braces is that they are able to be removed. Patients should minimize the time the trays are removed to only two to four hours each day. This allows the patient to eat any food they desire and clean their teeth as they did before. The aligner trays are also far less noticeable compared to any kind of fixed braces, including those which contain clear brackets. They are a perfect solution for people who want to discreetly straighten their teeth.

For example, patients who are wearing the braces may want to remove their aligners for a special occasion or an important meeting and the clear aligner braces offer this type of flexibility.

This straightening solution does include some inconveniences, however. The clear aligner braces should be removed to clean your teeth, while eating and when drinking anything other than water. If they are not removed, bacteria can gets trapped inside the aligners and increases the chances for dental caries and gum disease.

They also require the wearer to have some discipline as they need to be work for 20-22 hours daily. If the patient is not disciplined to keep them in, fixed braces may be a better solution.
